Welcome to Carlsbad
Family vibes and an on-the-rise downtown district in a classic beach town
The beautiful coastal village of Carlsbad is an affluent town set against the stunning backdrop of the Pacific coastline. Affectionately called “The Village by the Sea” by locals, Carlsbad is one of California’s most charming seaside towns. From the year-round mild climate to world-class spas and quaint boutique hotels, Carlsbad offers coastal splendor and a resort lifestyle.
In 1882, the waters of Carlsbad were found to have a similar mineral content to those in a famous spa in Karlsbad, Bohemia – and so the town was named. Today, Carlsbad retains that spa-like feel, offering independent boutiques and bistros rather than big-box retailers like Target and Walmart. Homes here range from gorgeous oceanfront properties to thoughtfully planned new construction developments.
Located between laid-back San Diego and glamorous Orange County, Carlsbad provides a unique opportunity to live the best of both worlds. With influences from each cosmopolitan metropolis, Carlsbad spins sophistication and coastal vibes into a magical blend of elevated beach town perfection.

People & Lifestyle
Carlsbad has been named one of the best places in America to buy a house and to retire. This is also the place where flip flops and beachwear are the daily uniform, and bike riding, running, beach volleyball, and surfing are part of the culture of healthy living. Home to the first skatepark in California, skateboarding is a major part of the scene here. Surfers, bicyclists, and joggers fill the streets, while professionally, Carlsbad is home to executives working for tech giants like Viasat and Thermo Fisher Scientific.
Dining, Entertainment & Shopping
Considered a foodie town, Carlsbad provides residents with over 100 bistros, eateries, and cafes. The buzzy Campfire is a New American restaurant and cocktail bar with a focus on wood-fired cuisine. This indoor-outdoor venue sports an adorable camping theme and even serves gourmet s’mores. Handel's Homemade Ice Cream has served handmade ice cream, cones, sundaes, and shakes since 1945 and offers over 150 flavors, like deep-dish apple pie, cinnamon roll, birthday cake, and mud pie, as well as classics like vanilla and mint chocolate chip.
The elegant Jeune et Jolie reimagines French cuisine with the fresh, vibrant influence of Southern California flavors. This Michelin-star bistro offers a four-course menu or, for those looking for a more casual evening, the "Menu du Bar,” an à la carte experience in the lounge. The popular Lofty Coffee is Carlsbad’s choice for a morning wake-up. This locally owned, environmentally conscious cafe sources locally grown, organic, and sustainable ingredients and serves the best coffee in town. Try Lofty Market for fresh juices, organic eggs and dairy, and, of course, freshly roasted coffee.
Things to Do
The unique and laid-back Carlsbad is a nature lover’s paradise, but it also provides residents with plenty of cultural experiences. Art in the Village has been a part of the neighborhood since 1998, and this open-air art show, featuring local and regional fine artists, is a beloved summer event. Artwork is juried and artists from every medium take part, representing oil, watercolor, mixed media, digital, photography, glasswork, woodworking, jewelry, pottery, and more. The oceanfront Artwalk focuses on fine art, both on display and for sale, by artists from all over the United States and Mexico. Enjoy the stunning coastal views while also exploring a wide range of vibrant and exciting artwork.
