Del Mar

One of the only true village atmospheres in the San Diego area.

Welcome to Del Mar

A private, coastal oasis of luxury and beautiful beaches

Luxurious and tranquil, Del Mar is a stunning coastal village known for near-perfect weather and world-famous attractions, like the Del Mar Racetrack and Fairgrounds. A coveted destination for Hollywood stars in the 1930s, Del Mar maintains an air of that breezy Golden Age glamour, with outstanding culinary spots, shopping, picturesque beaches, and innovative architecture. There’s even a reference to this iconic town in the Beach Boys’ tune “Surfin’ USA.”

Spanish for "of the sea" or "by the sea," Del Mar is protective of its idyllic oceanside setting and the community keeps development at a minimum. One of the only true village atmospheres in the San Diego area, Del Mar offers an easy, luxurious vibe reminiscent of vintage California, while also within easy distance of both La Jolla and downtown San Diego. With Tudor styles and historic cottages, Del Mar simultaneously evokes and satisfies a sense of nostalgia.

Known as a prime culinary destination, Del Mar’s restaurant scene is fresh and innovative. With its seamless blend of chef-driven fare and exceptional ocean views, the Monarch Ocean Pub has become a neighborhood favorite. This relaxed restaurant offers a fresh menu of burgers, salads, soups, and sharing plates made with the freshest ingredients and techniques. Standouts are the roasted wagyu ribeye and the Hawaiian donuts. Cultivating the sophistication of an upscale American steakhouse, Red Tracton's Steakhouse offers only the finest steaks, prime rib, rock lobsters, scallops, and Alaskan crab. Located across from the Del Mar racetrack, this well-regarded steakhouse also features a piano bar.

Seaside eatery Jake's Del Mar is just steps from the Pacific and its floor-to-ceiling windows offer incredible ocean views. This innovative bistro features such special dishes as achiote roasted fish curry and cumin crusted ahi for dinner and shrimp and smoked salmon omelet for Sunday brunch. For a more low-key experience, and the best pizza in town, head straight for Del Mar Pizza, a surf-themed space serving pizza, subs, pasta, and salads.

Things to Do

Del Mar is perhaps most famous as the home of the renowned Del Mar Race Track. Founded by Bing Crosby, this world-class Thoroughbred racing destination, located at the equally famous Del Mar Fairgrounds, offers both summer and fall meets, as well as trackside dining and suites. With over 300 events, the Fairgrounds are also home to the San Diego County Fair. Previously known as the Del Mar Fair, this vibrant, colorful festival is one of the most highly anticipated celebrations in Southern California.

Established in 1936, the grounds are also home base for the Del Mar National Horse Show, a thrilling three-week event showcasing distinct equestrian disciplines, such as dressage and hunter/jumpers, The Scream Zone, San Diego’s favorite fright fest, and both the Holidays In Your Car holiday lights event and the family favorite Snow N Glow Holiday Festival.
